These are the dates that the inhabitants of this area are suggested to have been here.  This covers the time period of the Basketmakers (early farmers who began to build shelters and make baskets) to early Puebloans (more advanced shelters, farming, & pottery).

An avalanche forecaster shows the varied layers of snow.
The cabin we stayed in, Hilliard-Fowler (shown below), is part of the 10th Mountain Division Hut System, named for the men of the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army who trained during WWII in the area in order to prepare for skiing into less accessible areas.  The hut sits above treeline.
